WHY GLOBAL MAJORITY /BIPOC IPA SCHOLARSHIPS?

Because we are committed to supporting accent authenticity and diversified voices in entertainment and acknowledge that historically Global Majority/BIPOC actors have seen fewer opportunities to be cast, yet have been asked to present a disproportionately wider variety of accents than other actors.

Thanks in part to the diligent efforts of social media users worldwide, the film, television, new media and live performance industries have begun important steps toward creating projects with fresh storylines that include characters from many different accent bases.

We also recognize that training programs of the past have prioritized whiteness, that we have personally benefitted from this prioritization, and that a more holistic and diversified approach is needed for these opportunities in film and television to be realized and to grow.

We know that in order for the industry to successfully tell diverse stories with authentic characters it needs an acting community that is prepared.

We are eager to partner and ally with the Global Majority / BIPOC acting community to help facilitate this preparation.

We believe that every actor should have the skills to approach any accent, and that the IPA is one of the best tools for this.

We believe that training in the IPA can be instrumental to the lasting diversification in storytelling worldwide, and an asset to Global Majority /BIPOC actors looking to make their mark on the industry.

WHO IS PRESENTING THIS SCHOLARSHIP?

This scholarship is presented by The Actors Dream Team LLC in cooperation with DialectCoaches.com.

WHAT WILL I LEARN IN THIS CLASS?

LOTS! Five professional dialect coaches with over 70 years combined experience have created 85 on-demand lessons especially for actors that will help you demystify and begin to integrate the International Phonetic Alphabet in your accent work as an actor. For a preview of the class, click here.

AM I ELIGIBLE?

You are eligible if you are a Global Majority / BIPOC actor over the age of 18 who is ready to spend 6 to 8 weeks immersing yourself in exploration of the International Phonetic Alphabet who would find taking the IPA course to be beyond their current means.

HOW IS THE TERM ‘GLOBAL MAJORITY’ DEFINED?

Neither Dialect Coaches.com nor The Accent Dream Team LLC have the authority to define the term ‘Global Majority’ so we defer to the definitions that you can find here.

WHEN SHOULD I APPLY?

Apply now! We review applications at least quarterly (Jan, May, July, Oct), and more often when possible.

WHERE CAN I APPLY?

HOW MUCH IS THE SCHOLARSHIP?

At present, each scholarship covers 90% of the full tuition price of the complete course.

HOW WILL I KNOW IF I GET A SCHOLARSHIP?

We will send you an email with a personal one-time only code for a 90% discount off of the full price of the course. In exchange for participation in this scholarship, you will be asked for your feedback on the course.
